Due to recent weather conditions, there have been reports of residential flooding. The cause for so much overland flow is the shallow to non existent snowpack coupled with the cold weather earlier this winter resulting in severly frozen ground. With warm weather the melt water could not infiltrate into the ground causing surface runoff.

You can take actions to help better floodproof your property by taking these actions:
- Protect basement window wells and basement doors - these are major entry points for water.
- Ensure water drains away from foundation walls.
- Keep drainage ditches/area and rear year catch basins accessible and free of blockage.
- If you have a driveway that slopes toward the house, clean out drain grates and protect entrances to the basement and your home.
- Consider planting more trees and shrubs to help diffuse rainwater.
- Create overland flow paths to redirect run off.
